Established in 1990 after the signing of the Sister-State agreement by Governors Tommy Thompson (Wisconsin) and Takeshi Numata (Chiba), Wisconsin-Chiba, Inc. (WCI) supports the sister-state relationship between the State of Wisconsin and Prefecture of Chiba, Japan. WCI engages in activities such as organizing and hosting annual cultural delegations in partnership with its Japanese counterpart, the Chiba-Wisconsin Association. WCI is a non-profit, tax-exempt, volunteer-run 501(c)(3) organization.

Located just east of Tokyo, Chiba Prefecture primarily occupies the sprawling Boso Peninsula, bordered by the vast Pacific Ocean and the bustling Tokyo Bay. Because it is home to Narita International Airport, Chiba is usually the very first place American travelers step foot when arriving in Japan. It is also the site of the world-famous Tokyo Disney Resort, drawing millions of international visitors every year. Beyond these modern attractions, the region’s geography—a mix of rolling hills, flat plains, and coastal waters—provides excellent marine leisure, fresh seafood, and highly productive farmland. In fact, Chiba proudly stands as Japan’s second-largest agricultural producer, famously known nationwide for its high-quality peanuts, diverse vegetable crops, and beautiful coastal landscapes.
